Recombinant Human Fatty Acid-Binding Protein I Ala2-Asp132

Synonimy: Intestinal-type fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP), Fatty acid-binding protein 2

Recombinant Human Fatty acid-binding protein, intestinal (FABP2) belongs to the calycin superfamily and the fatty acid-binding protein (FABP) family. This cytoplasmic protein forms a beta-barrel structure that accommodates hydrophobic ligands in its interior. FABP2 plays a key role in the intracellular transport of long-chain fatty acids and their acyl-CoA esters, showing high affinity for saturated long-chain fatty acids and lower affinity for unsaturated ones. It is primarily expressed in the small intestine, particularly in the jejunum, with much lower levels in the large intestine. FABP2 contributes to triglyceride-rich lipoprotein synthesis and may function as a lipid sensor for maintaining energy homeostasis, making it a valuable research tool for metabolic and intestinal studies.
