The SAC is a critical surveillance mechanism that ensures accurate chromosome segregation by delaying anaphase onset until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. BUB1 localizes to kinetochores and is essential for recruiting other SAC proteins and establishing a stable checkpoint signal.
