Anti-Smac Antibody

This antibody targets Second mitochondria-derived activator of caspases (Smac), also known as DIABLO. Smac is a pro-apoptotic protein that is released from the mitochondrial intermembrane space into the cytosol during intrinsic apoptosis. In the cytosol, Smac promotes apoptosis by binding to and antagonizing Inhibitor of Apoptosis Proteins (IAPs), such as XIAP. This action liberates caspases from IAP-mediated inhibition, allowing the apoptotic cascade to proceed efficiently.
Providing reliable detection in immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry, this antibody enables investigation of the intrinsic apoptosis pathway, mitochondrial regulation of cell death, and the mechanisms of caspase activation. It is a valuable tool for studying how cells regulate commitment to apoptosis.
