Anti-Calsequestrin-1 Antibody
Synonyms: Calmitine, Calsequestrin - skeletal muscle isoform
This antibody targets Calsequestrin-1 (CASQ1), the major intraluminal calcium-binding protein located within the terminal cisternae of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) in fast-twitch skeletal muscle fibers. CASQ1 functions as a high-capacity, low-affinity Ca2+ buffer, polymerizing upon calcium binding to enable the SR to store large quantities of calcium ions. This stored calcium is released via the ryanodine receptor (RyR1) to initiate muscle contraction, making CASQ1 essential for excitation-contraction coupling in skeletal muscle.
Suitable for applications including immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry, this antibody provides a specific marker for fast-twitch skeletal muscle fibers and the sarcoplasmic reticulum. It enables researchers to study muscle fiber typing, SR structure and function, calcium storage and release mechanisms, excitation-contraction coupling, and potential alterations in CASQ1 expression or localization in muscle development or disease states.
