This antibody targets Carbonic Anhydrase 9 (CAIX), a transmembrane zinc metalloenzyme highly upregulated under hypoxic conditions via HIF-1α. CAIX catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide to bicarbonate and protons, contributing to the regulation of extracellular and intracellular pH, particularly in the acidic tumor microenvironment. Its expression is strongly associated with hypoxia and is a prognostic marker in several cancers, notably clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
